At Suburban Spine, Dr. Ungemach provides advanced spinal correction and chiropractic adjustments utilizing "state of the art" chiropractic techniques like the Sigma Ultralign computer aided adjusting instrument, as well as many other proven traditional manual manipulative techniques. Many of the newest chiropractic techniques are actually safer, more comfortable and more effective than ever before. As a chiropractor who cares about utilizing the most advanced and proven chiropractic techniques, Dr. Ungemach has years of training, expertise and experience in helping patients get pain relief for back pain, neck pain, headaches, disc problems, post surgical related dysfunctions and other related conditions originating from the spine and extremities using traditional manual manipulative techniques as well as the newer computer aided adjusting instrument. Dr. Ungemach's extensive knowledge of these techniques allows him to treat most spinal and extremity problems in his office, easily and effectively with the primary goal of reducing pain and dysfunction, while restoring strength and improving function and athletic performance. Chiropractic care under a trained professional can even be used to prevent injuries and help you achieve total health/wellness and peak athletic performance.
Dr. Ungemach is highly trained and certified in the use of the Sigma Ultralign and the Sigma Methods Technique, the most advanced computerized analysis and adjusting instrument in chiropractic! So what are the benefits of this Ultralign adjustment, one might ask. Well, the thing is that during manual chiropractic adjustments, a chiropractor has to use the sense of touch in order to detect and also correct subluxations or segmental dysfunction. That's just what this amazing instrument does (utilizing NASA developed peizo-electric sensing technology) but with a much more gentle approach. And that makes it the right option for just about everyone; from infants to seniors. Dr. Ungemach says "I love to perform manual manipulation but there are some patients who resist manual chiropractic adjustments quite simply because they don't know what's in store for them or don't like the sound it makes so then drop out of the care they so desperately need. However with the help of this instrument, that fear is eliminated and the patient can get the treatment they need without any hesitations or hassle. By using the Sigma instrument, we don't guess, we test, and we know with confidence that we are adjusting the right segment."
"One of the major advantages I have seen with this type of treatment is that there are no sudden movements that are involved with the adjustment. The patient is able to remain relaxed and often notes how good it feels while the adjustment is being performed. The treatment is controlled, consistent, measurable and extremely gentle." This is why it is readily accepted and the preferred method of treatment by the medical field. The sigma instrument has been in news segments and can be seen in action on Fox News, Click Here!
Electric Stimulation is a procedure to stimulate a therapeutic effect on the body. When applied to tissue, electric currents create thermal, physiologic, and chemical responses. The currents also alter pain impulses. Interferential stimulation is the most commonly used form of electrical stimulation used in the chiropractic setting. Two channels of electrical stimulation create a third current that penetrates the affected tissues with little resistance. This stimulation helps control pain and muscle contractions. Interferential stimulation also reduces edema, swelling caused by fluid in the body’s tissues.
In addition to electrical stimulation, ultrasound therapy is also used for therapeutic effects. Ultrasound uses acoustic energy at a high frequency. A continuous wave produces thermal effects. These thermal effects include increased blood flow, a reduction of stiffness and spasm, an increase in flexibility of tendon and joint capsules, and decreased pain. Pulsed waves typically produce non-thermal effects. These effects include tissue regeneration, collagen synthesis, an increase in blood flow, and a reduction of edema, an excess of fluid which causes swelling.
Used in combination, Electric Stim and Therapeutic ultrasound work seamlessly to heat and stimulate muscle simultaneously for more rapid healing and better patient outcome.
These forms of therapeutic treatment along with spinal manipulation can help reduce pain and get you moving in the right direction toward recovery. For even more information about our therapies and the conditions we treat, Click HERE
Dr. Ungemach is Certified through (SCU) Southern California University of Health Sciences, to perform Manipulation Under Anesthesia (MUA). Manipulation under anesthesia is a highly specialized technique for chronic pain patients who have failed to respond to long term conservative care. It is a procedure that is intended for patients that suffer from sometimes acute, but mostly chronic musculoskeletal disorders in conjunction with biomechanical aberrancies. These individuals have also been minimally responsive to previous conservative therapy. Etiology (cause) of their pain can be from disc bulge/herniation, chronic sprain/strain, failed back surgery, adhesive capsulitis of the shoulder or hip, and myofacial pain syndromes. The procedure is extremely beneficial for the patient that has muscle spasm accompanied with pain and terminal joint range of motion loss. To learn more about MUA please click here.
At Suburban Spine, we teach our patients how to perform special "blueprint" exercises which can help strengthen and correct the irregularities in their body which may be causing pain. We utilize the same equipment that many professional sports teams use for training and rehabilitation of their injured athletes. Impulse Training Systems - Unique in enhancing neuromuscular co-activation for superior joint stabilization and core stability while training functional acceleration, balance, & coordination, This is the most versatile neurological training tool anywhere! Once you have gone through our program, Dr. Ungemach will transition you to a home-based rehab regimen. Most of these corrective exercises can actually be performed in the comfort of your own home to help improve the effectiveness of your chiropractic care and spinal correction plan. In addition to skeletal misalignment, you may be experiencing pain that is caused by muscles and connective tissues which are out of their proper place. Other types of pain such as back pain, neck pain, and headaches are caused by muscles and tissues that are being used improperly, causing injuries over time such as prolonged improper work posture or text neck. In each case, targeted corrective exercises and stretches from Dr. Ungemach will help you feel good while also helping your body achieve balance and health.
Many of our patients come to see Dr. Ungemach to address a specific pain symptom such as back pain, neck pain or headaches. While Dr. Scott will address each patient's specific condition with chiropractic care, He often finds it helpful to "coach" his patients towards achieving a healthier lifestyle. For example, there may be certain activities that you should avoid or do differently to prevent yourself from unintentionally aggravating your particular health challenges. The goal of including lifestyle advice with a chiropractic care plan is to help each and every patient achieve the fulfilling and happy lifestyle they deserve, one that is full of the activities that you enjoy most. We recognize that every single one of our patients is a whole person, unique and different, and we use our expertise to help each of them reach total health and wellness.
What does nutrition have to do with chiropractic care? The goal of chiropractic care is to help patients achieve total health and balance with their body, and as part of that goal we provide specific recommendations on nutritional supplements and healthy food choices. Nutritional counseling by our experienced chiropractic health professionals can assist a patient on their return to optimal health. Do you know which supplements and vitamins are good for you? Massage therapy does more than make you feel good, it can actually help your body achieve balance and health. Massage therapy offers a natural treatment approach which actually relieves musculoskeletal pain for many patients. Our chiropractic office provides specific massage and muscular therapy that is complimentary to their chiropractic care. Each massage therapy plan is tailored to meet the patient's unique pain condition or injury. The benefits of massage therapy may include the increase of blood circulation, a localized reduction in swelling and the relaxation of muscles. Massage has been known to relieve muscle pain and spasms, increase a patient's range of motion, while also aiding in a patient's recovery. Some investigative studies have even indicated that a single session of massage may help boost your immune system! We use a combination of computer aided analysis of the troubled areas to identify specific trigger points and use different massage techniques to reduce your pain and restore normal function to the area. We are one of the only offices to implement this technique.

Cortisone shots are injections that may help relieve pain and inflammation in a specific area of your body. They can be especially beneficial when done in conjunction with Chiropractic care. They're most commonly injected into joints — such as your ankle, elbow, hip, knee, shoulder, spine and wrist. Even the small joints in your hands and feet might benefit from cortisone shots.
The injections usually comprise a corticosteroid medication and a local anesthetic. Often, you can receive a cortisone shot at your doctor's office. Because of potential side effects, the number of shots you can receive in one year generally is limited.
